Improving the Justice System

What sets Andrea apart from other candidates is her passion to improve our system of justice. In 2023, as President of the Brevard County chapter of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (FACDL), Andrea had the idea of formulating a roundtable to address the inefficiencies impacting our criminal justice system. As such, the Collaborative Conference for Justice was created and afforded judges, defense attorneys and prosecutors an opportunity to engage in discussions concerning areas of improvement within the criminal division. 

In January 2025, Andrea spearheaded the second annual Collaborative Conference for Justice, which focused on the topic of mental health within our criminal justice system. Judges, lawyers, mental health specialists, an elected official and other professionals gathered together to discuss issues and possible solutions surrounding how our criminal court navigates cases involving individuals with mental illnesses and intellectual disabilities. By effectively addressing criminal cases involving individuals with mental health illnesses, intellectual disabilities, and drug addiction, Andrea hopes to reduce the rate of recidivism in Brevard County. 

Additionally, Andrea has endeavored to improve our justice system and community through efforts such as organizing a clothing drive for a local workforce organization so that individuals being released from incarceration could have professional and semi-professional clothing for job interviews. Once elected, Andrea wishes to continue her efforts to make a greater impact on the improvement of our justice system.
